This can feel&nbsp;overwhelming,&nbsp;so we\u2019ve broken down what&nbsp;to expect.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The main goal of the initial consultation is&nbsp;to receive&nbsp;the necessary&nbsp;information and understand&nbsp;what&nbsp;family&nbsp;building&nbsp;options are best for you.&nbsp;During this \u201cinformation gathering\u201d day, you will&nbsp;likely&nbsp;review and&nbsp;test the following:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Your&nbsp;medical history.&nbsp;If you&nbsp;are able to&nbsp;send over any tests (fertility related or otherwise relevant) prior to&nbsp;your&nbsp;consultation, this can help the physician begin to understand&nbsp;your&nbsp;journey to this point.&nbsp;<\/li><li>The basics of reproductive biology.&nbsp;<\/li><li>Initial testing&nbsp;for&nbsp;a basic fertility evaluation. This can include looking at&nbsp;ovarian reserve, age, ovulation, tubal, or uterine issues, thyroid health, semen analysis, and more.&nbsp;<ul><li>The tests you\/your&nbsp;partner go through will depend on their medical history and&nbsp;family&nbsp;building&nbsp;goals.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li><li>A majority of&nbsp;tests can be done the day you are in for&nbsp;your&nbsp;initial consult.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During this meeting,&nbsp;it\u2019s&nbsp;important to ask questions!&nbsp;There will be&nbsp;a lot of&nbsp;information at&nbsp;once, so having a list of questions&nbsp;can&nbsp;be helpful. Bringing a notebook, partner, friend, or loved one&nbsp;to take notes can also take the pressure&nbsp;off.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once the consultation is completed, you and&nbsp;your&nbsp;doctor will discuss the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/progyny.com\/education\/ivf-facts\/which-ivf-protocol\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">various treatment options<\/a>.&nbsp;Treatments can range from being prescribed fertility medication and timed intercourse,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/progyny.com\/education\/fertility-drugs-iui\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">intrauterine&nbsp;insemination&nbsp;(IUI)<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/progyny.com\/blog\/fertility-family-building\/the-ivf-treatment-process-a-step-by-step-guide\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">in vitro fertilization (IVF)<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/progyny.com\/education\/reciprocal-ivf\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reciprocal IVF<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/progyny.com\/education\/understanding-the-surrogacy-process\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">surrogacy<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/progyny.com\/education\/understanding-the-adoption-process\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">adoption<\/a>, and fertility preservation&nbsp;(this could be&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/progyny.com\/education\/understanding-the-egg-freezing-process\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">egg freezing<\/a>&nbsp;or&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/progyny.com\/education\/sperm-freezing-101\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sperm freezing<\/a>).&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A reminder for&nbsp;Progyny&nbsp;members &#8211;&nbsp;most of these services are covered by&nbsp;your&nbsp;Progyny&nbsp;benefit. For this diet, looking at the type of food is more important than anything else. Prioritizing whole grains, fresh produce, plant&nbsp;protein, and fish are&nbsp;key.&nbsp;<\/li><li>Beginning to take prenatal vitamins a few months before you hope to get pregnant can increase&nbsp;your&nbsp;chances of a successful conception.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/progyny.com\/education\/the-best-vitamins-and-supplements-to-boost-your-fertility\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Supplements<\/a>&nbsp;are another option to discuss with&nbsp;your&nbsp;physician.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li><li>Limit alcohol intake.&nbsp;<\/li><li>Try getting 7-8 hours of sleep a night.&nbsp;<\/li><li>Focus on&nbsp;your&nbsp;stress management and doing what you can to keep a clear headspace.
