It's the most common cause of irregular menstrual cycles\u00a0but it doesn't mean that it's the cause\u00a0because\u00a0anybody can have\u00a0irregular menstrual cycles.\u00a0So,\u00a0anyone who has irregular menstrual cycles, really needs a workup to understand why their cycles are irregular, and make sure that we're treating the right underlying etiology. The other thing that I would say is that with PCOS, it comes in many different forms.\u00a0There's not one\u00a0specific package that people fall into, from a phenotypic situation.\u00a0There\u00a0are\u00a0women from all different body types\u00a0that\u00a0can fall into the PCOS\u00a0category. So just because someone has a normal BMI or an elevated BMI, that doesn't mean that they do or do not have PCOS;\u00a0we\u00a0have to\u00a0look at these other factors.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{"201341983":0,"335559739":160,"335559740":259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><b>Normalizing the diagnosis<\/b><\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{"201341983":0,"335559739":160,"335559740":259}\">\r\n<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">16:56 \u2013 17:49<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{"201341983":0,"335559739":160,"335559740":259}\">\u00a0<\/span>\r\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Dr. Todd Deutch:<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0People with PCOS\u00a0are not alone.\u00a0I think with any medical condition, it's tempting to feel like\u00a0you're the only one experiencing those symptoms\u00a0and sometimes\u00a0people can get ashamed or upset by the fact that they're dealing with these issues.
