And it had had no sponsors and it died after one term. And I read the bill and it was a national ma<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">ndate\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">cover<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">ing\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">fertility treatment<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">. A<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">nd I said,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">that's<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0a start. I mean,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">that's<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0what we should be going for<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">:<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0a mandate to cover fertility treatments<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{"201341983":0,"335559739":160,"335559740":259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Dan Bulger:<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0A<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0national mandate to cover fertility treatment. When I was speaking with Risa<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">I\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">actually wrote<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0that down in my notes in all caps. It would be, as they say, a game changer. If there was a national mandate, there\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">wouldn't<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0have to be all these different groups around the country fighting for coverage in their state. So yeah, it was a really great place to start.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{"201341983":0,"335559739":160,"335559740":259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Risa Levine:<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">I downloaded certain statistics from the CDC about success rates and participation rates, etc. And I downloaded information about the cost of IVF cycles, and, and the success rates and you know, I put together an information package. And I asked people on the support boards to send me their stories that I thought were particularly sympathetic. And I basically went to political events or all kinds of things. And suddenly I had a platform. I suddenly had a team of people who\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">I\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">can work with instead of doing\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">the t<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">hing on my own.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{"201341983":0,"335559739":160,"335559740":259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Dan Bulger:\u00a0<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Barbara Collura\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">is the CEO of\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">RESOLVE<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0-<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0the National infertility Association. And these two together are quite the powerhouse. But eventually it became clear that the national mandate\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">wasn't<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0going to work out at that time. They then worked on a bill that would give a tax credit to those spending money on fertility treatments. And that one\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">actually got<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0into language in the Tax Reform Act. But unfortunately, the Tax Reform Act itself fell through. But while they were working on these bills, they were building something lasting. She served on the Board of Directors of RESOLVE from 2010 through 2019, and as Chair of RESOLVE\u2019s Advocacy Day on Capitol Hill in 2008, 2009, 2011, 2012, and 2013 and chaired RESOLVE\u2019s Congressional Briefing in 2010. She was the recipient of RESOLVE\u2019s Hope Award for Advocacy in 2010 and was the recipient of the Barbara Eck Founder\u2019s Award in 2019.\u00a0Also\u00a0in 2019, the RESOLVE Advocacy Legacy Award in honor of Risa A Levine was established.\r\n\r\nMs\u00a0Levine was a member of Hillary Clinton\u2019s Finance Committee for her historic presidential bid. She campaigned on Hillary\u2019s behalf in several states and was involved with fundraising and surrogate speaking on behalf of the candidate. Risa first began volunteering for Hillary Clinton upon the inception of the 2000 Hillary Clinton for Senate Campaign.
