Cade Foundation<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\">, a nonprofit that supports families struggling with infertility.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">Dr. Hammond\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">was diagnosed with\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/progyny.com\/education\/female-infertility\/what-is-endometriosis\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">endometriosis<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0before trying to get pregnant<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">, so she knew from the onset that conception wouldn\u2019t come easily.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0Additionally,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">i<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">nfertility as a Black woman can be especially intimidating, but she found\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">helpful resources and community\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">through the\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/thebrokenbrownegg.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Broken Brown Egg<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">(<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">whose founder\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/progyny.com\/podcast\/episode-86\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">we featured on the\u00a0<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\">podcast<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">)<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">and\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fertilityforcoloredgirls.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Fertility for Colored Girls<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\">.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">During her journey,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">Dr. Hammond\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">went through six rounds of IVF and<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0used<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0a\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/progyny.com\/blog\/fertility-education\/understanding-the-surrogacy-process\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">gestational carrier<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0(who ended up being her mother<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">Triana<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0Q. Cade<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">) to reach her goals<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">. B<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">ut not without receiving financial assistance from\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">her\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">family and\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">going through a<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0period of low cash flow as an already\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">busy\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">medical student. And I can't imagine anyone who would have been a better person to carry what we thought was going to be or we hoped would be our baby and ended up being our triplets, our three babies. She had already carried me.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">I<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0love my mom, I talked\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">to her every day. And\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">so<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0dealing with that was hard. I was a medical student and a resident, but I was still hopeful. I think toward the end I did get to the point where I just had so many years of failure\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">or\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">what felt like failure and was starting to lose my hope a little bit<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">. We give out grants which are up to $10,000 for fertility treatment or domestic adoption. And then we have education and conferences. We support conferences that are put on by other organizations and we also do our own. Every year we have a virtual conference but every other Monday we host coffee with\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">Cade\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">events, which are like mini conferences where either\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">myself<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0or a member of the team speak<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">s<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0with an expert about a topic that is\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">of\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">relevance and interest to the community.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">W<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">e've talked about everything from sexual function with infertility<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0to donor egg, to how to maintain emotional intimacy with a partner while you're going through infertility<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0to men understanding the male response to family building and infertility<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">L<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">ots of great content there.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">T<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">hese are all free. I'll just mention\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">our\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">fertility book club\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">which\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">is an opportunity to meet with other people who are interested in reading books and talking about the lessons from the book or the themes<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">that may be applicable to the experience of trying to conceive<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{"201341983":0,"335559739":160,"335559740":259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><b>Black Women and Infertility<\/b><\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{"201341983":0,"335559739":160,"335559740":259}\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u00a0<\/span>\r\n<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">16:02-17:23<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{"201341983":0,"335559739":160,"335559740":259}\">\u00a0<\/span>\r\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Dr.\u00a0<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Camille Hammond:<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0I am a Black woman that struggled with infertility. And being Black and infertile is very hard. Also, in the past it was harder because when you looked at the type of messaging that was put out, whether it was from clinics or support organizations, most of it involved women that were not\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">B<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">lack, and families that were not\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">B<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">lack. And\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">so<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0if you're looking at a commercial and you don't see anyone who you can identify with, you may feel like this place that is offering support is not for me, so there are a number of issues<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">. Now there are<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0organizations that do provide support for\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">B<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">lack women dealing with infertility.
