And while the film was initially meant to be a short film targeting black women of reproductive age, the target audience grew to include a completely different demographic.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n<b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Chi<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">quita Lockley<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\">: Once I realized the film was going to be bigger,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">I thought we had to use this to also educate doctors.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">On<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">ce we started looking at maternal mortality, that black women have a 243% maternal mortality rate, like we died three times more often than a white woman\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">who's<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0having a baby<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">, we realized t<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">hat is a doctor's issue.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n<b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Dan Bulger<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\">: T<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">hat statistic that black women die three to four times more often than white women while giving birth is absolutely jarring. But <\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">it's<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0not the only place where our health care system comes up significantly short for black women. And this film does a very good job of talking about many of the issues that need to be corrected.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span>\r\n\r\n<b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Chiquita Lockley:<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">There are several reasons why a woman may not be able to have a baby or have some<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">problems conceiving<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0one of the biggest issues\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">in t<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">he black community is fibroids. 80% of black women will have fibroids by the age of 50. That number is astronomical. And just to be clear<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">70% for white women<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0will also have fibroids<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">, so\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">there's<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\"> not a huge gap.
