We finally went to the doctor\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">and I explained the ways I was feeling<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">, but endometriosis was not the social phenomenon then that it is now. The doctor wanted to monitor it before giving me a firm diagnosis.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{"201341983":0,"335559739":160,"335559740":259}\" data-wac-het=\"1\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">At 18 and with a committed boyfriend, sex continued to be very painful, especially before my period, and we went to the doctor who<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0believed it was symptomatically\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">endometriosis. I had my first surgery and the biopsy came back positive for endometriosis.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{"201341983":0,"335559739":160,"335559740":259}\" data-wac-het=\"1\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Dr. Georgia Witkin:\u00a0<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Carli was lucky, she received an early diagnosis<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0and treatment for her endometriosis, but so many people don\u2019t get there like Carli until\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">they\u2019ve experienced decades of pain and damage to their reproductive system.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{"201341983":0,"335559739":160,"335559740":259}\" data-wac-het=\"1\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><b>Endometriosis<\/b><b>, PCOS<\/b><b>,\u00a0<\/b><b>and Fertility\u00a0<\/b><\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{"201341983":0,"335559739":160,"335559740":259}\" data-wac-het=\"1\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u00a0<\/span>\r\n<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">13:07<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0\u2013\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">16:26<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{"201341983":0,"335559739":160,"335559740":259}\" data-wac-het=\"1\">\u00a0<\/span>\r\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Carli Blau:<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0For me, wanting a child was a lifelong experience.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0I went off my birth control pills after my wedding and experienced very irregular periods<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. I decided to see a fertility specialist to see if this was indicative of something bigger.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{"201341983":0,"335559739":160,"335559740":259}\" data-wac-het=\"1\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">I\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">wasn\u2019t ovulating and ended up doing\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">nine<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0rounds of medicated cycles,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0an IUI<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0and then turned to IVF.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{"201341983":0,"335559739":160,"335559740":259}\" data-wac-het=\"1\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Dr. Georgia Witkin<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">: It turned out that Carli didn\u2019t just have endometriosis,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0she also had PCOS.
