These treatments are usually not covered by insurance, leaving many individuals and couples paying <a href=\"https:\/\/progyny.com\/blog\/blog\/how-to-cope-with-the-high-costs-of-infertility-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">thousands of dollars out-of-pocket<\/a>.\r\n\r\nSo, what\u2019s an individual supposed to do when they can\u2019t afford treatment? In this episode, we hear from Sharika Ramseur, who\u2019s been struggling to have a child with her husband Gabriel for almost eight years. After seeing a number of specialists, the couple discovered that Gabriel had <a href=\"https:\/\/progyny.com\/education\/male-infertility\/what-is-male-infertility\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">male factor infertility<\/a>, and were recommended to try <a href=\"https:\/\/progyny.com\/education\/fertility-101\/iui\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">IUI<\/a> \u2013 the only problem was they couldn\u2019t afford more than one round.\r\n\r\nLuckily, Sharika had an <a href=\"https:\/\/progyny.com\/education\/emotional-support-and-awareness\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">extremely supportive community<\/a> of friends and colleagues at the hospital she worked at. We hear from Lauren and Megan, Sharika\u2019s co-workers who fundraised almost $4,000 to help cover the costs of IUI. But even this generous gift still wasn\u2019t enough. The couple was then told that <a href=\"https:\/\/progyny.com\/education\/fertility-101\/what-is-ivf\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">IVF<\/a> would be their best option to get pregnant, which costs a lot more than what Sharika could afford.\r\n\r\nOnce again, Sharika\u2019s co-workers went the extra mile and applied for a grant that helps couples pay for fertility treatments.
